An Asbestos Management Survey is where the surveyor takes small samples of materials and has the samples analysed. The analysis forms the basis of your Asbestos Register, which will also include where the sample was taken from, photographs and advice from the surveyor on the frequency of repeat inspections, should any asbestos be identified.
An Asbestos Refurbishment/Demolition Survey is carried out prior to any extension work, large modernisation projects or demolition. This survey actually allows the surveyor to make holes in walls, ceilings, floors, window boards, ceiling tiles and floor tiles, to take large samples of the materials for analysis.
The information received from the laboratory allows the contractor to have knowledge of where Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) are located, and allows him to get specialist contractors in to remove the Asbestos prior to starting work, should asbestos be identified.
This information can be presented to the contractor within 24 – 48 hours of the survey taking place, thus preventing any large downtime for workers.
